About the Unit

Upon the need to make regulations for the standardization, activation, dissemination and development of medical social service practices in order to solve the psycho-social and socio-economic problems experienced by all patients in need of social service intervention during the treatment process, especially the disabled, orphaned, poor, patients without health insurance, elderly, refugees, asylum seekers, victims of domestic violence, patients coming from out of town, etc., who receive services in health institutions and organizations by the General Directorate of Treatment Services of the Ministry of Health.Tıbbi Sosyal Hizmet Uygulama Yönergesi has been prepared.

WHO IS A SOCIAL WORKER AND WHAT DOES THEY DO?
A Social Worker is a health care professional who identifies the psycho-social and socio-economic problems of patients who apply to the hospital, plans and implements social service interventions related to their problems, and graduated from four-year social service departments of universities. Professional interventions carried out by a Social Worker in the hospital;

1) Conducts professional work in accordance with the relevant legislation.
2) Provides the necessary social service interventions to ensure the adaptation of patients who have difficulty adapting to the disease and treatment process.
3) Plans and implements social service interventions for patients who apply to the Medical Social Service Unit.
4) Plans and implements the necessary social service interventions in disasters.
5) Provides training to hospital staff, patients and their relatives on issues related to medical social work.
6) Participates in congresses, symposiums, trainings, etc. related to his/her profession, plans and implements professional projects.
7) Keeps reports and records in accordance with the principle of confidentiality.
8) Is responsible for his/her work to the unit manager.
9) If there is only one social worker, he/she performs the duties of the unit manager.
10) He/she performs other duties assigned by the unit manager.

IN WHAT CASES CAN THE MEDICAL SOCIAL WORK UNIT BE APPLIED?
Patients who are alone, abandoned and in need of care
Disabled patients
Patients without health insurance
Poor patients
Patients who are victims of domestic violence
Patients who have been neglected and abused
Refugee and asylum seeker patients
Patients who are victims of human trafficking
Elderly, widowed and orphaned patients
* Chronic patients
* Patients with mental health disorders
Alcohol and substance addicted patients
Patients who are foreign nationals and cannot benefit from treatment
Patients coming from out of town
Patients who have difficulty adapting to the disease and treatment process
Patients who apply to the emergency room due to suicide
Patients who are subject to health measures
Patients who do not have their ID cards and whose identification information is not available on HİCAMP
The necessary social service intervention is carried out by Social Service Specialists and the patient's problems are solved.
