OUR BREASTFEEDING POLICY
TEN STEPS TO SUCCESSFUL BREASTFEEDING
Basic Management Practices
1. A breastfeeding policy is created in the organization to protect, encourage and support breast milk and breastfeeding practices.
a) The “International Code of Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes” and the relevant decisions of the World Health Assembly are fully implemented.
b) A written “infant feeding policy” is created that is shared with staff and parents at regular intervals.
c) Continuous monitoring and data management systems are established.
2. It is ensured that staff are equipped with the necessary knowledge, competence and skills to support mothers in breastfeeding.
Basic Clinical Practices
3. Pregnant women and their families are informed about the importance and management of breastfeeding.
4. Mothers are supported to start breastfeeding as soon as possible by ensuring skin-to-skin contact with their babies as soon as possible after birth and to ensure that contact continues uninterrupted.
5. Mothers are supported in initiating and maintaining breastfeeding and managing common difficulties.
6. Unless there is a medical necessity, no food or liquid other than breast milk is given to the newborn.
7. Mothers are kept together with their babies and are provided with the same room 24 hours a day.
8. Mothers are supported in recognizing and responding to the signals their babies give when they are hungry.
9. Mothers are provided with counseling services on the use of bottles and pacifiers and their risks.
10. Parents and their babies are informed about the centers where they will access continuous support and care services for breastfeeding before discharge.
**Successful Breastfeeding Recommendations should be used as a standard to be evaluated based on the service provided in all health institutions.

BREASTFEEDING EDUCATION AND CONSULTANCY NURSING
It is an educational unit established to ensure that mothers overcome the difficulties they encounter before and during breastfeeding and to support them.
The main purpose is to support and spread breastfeeding, increase the use of breast milk, and correct misconceptions.
The importance of creating self-confidence in the mother, supporting and encouraging breastfeeding is indisputable. The parents, spouse and healthcare personnel around the mother have a great share in this. Every mother who gives birth in our hospital starts breastfeeding within the first hour after birth and receives training on this subject from our hospital's breast milk education nurse.
Breast milk education begins from the 32nd week of pregnancy. Breastfeeding techniques are shown to the expectant mother.
